Physician or Physiotherapist?

You must determine if a physiotherapist or physician is right for you. If your injury is serious you must go to the emergency room immediately. If the injury is less serious you may also want to visit your family physician or walk-in clinic to have the injury evaluated.

What Does a Physician Do?

Physicians diagnose serious injuries and assess for signs of physical or mental trauma. They also determine if a patient needs an MRI or x-ray and coordinate your referrals with the various medical specialists. They can also monitor your symptoms and signs while managing self-care, advice, and medications when required.

What Do Our Physiotherapists Do?

Physiotherapists assess function. Through observations, medical history, and physical examination we determine your course of action to get you back on your feet as quickly as possible. We will also use exercise and self-care to help you be the best you can be.

Injured At Work?

The most important aspects you need to know to involve your WCB Alberta coverage. You must tell your boss. You must visit the WCB Alberta website. Contact WCB Alberta. You will also need to ensure that you are covered while you are unable to work. Additionally, if you need physiotherapy, make sure their physiotherapy clinic is WCB approved.  For more info go to our work injury Edmonton page. Or read our work injury blog post.

The Recovery Process

During your recovery process, you will need to see both your physician and physiotherapist regularly. As a patient at ProActive physiotherapy, you need to understand the intensity of your injury and the importance of doing the regular exercises provided by your physiotherapist.
