Exercise Therapy

ProActive Physiotherapy is a firm believer in the relationship between movement and health. Our Exercise Therapy in South Edmonton is the basis of all of our wellness programs because when you can move unrestricted and free of pain, you can truly enjoy life.

Exercise to Restore Movement and Function

Exercise therapy is a plan of physical activities designed and prescribed for specific therapeutic goals. Its purpose is to work towards the restoration of normal musculoskeletal function or to reduce pain above and below the site of injury or disease.

At ProActive Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic, we believe in movement as medicine. That is why we are happy to offer exercise therapy as part of our clinical approach to help you move more easily, feel less pain, get stronger and be healthier.

Our exercise therapy sessions provide uninterrupted one-on-one instruction with a registered physiotherapist to ensure you reach your goals safely and efficiently. We can design and tailor a program to fit all individuals and all goals, and will start by compiling a complete health history, assessing physical baseline movements and setting targets. We guide you while you go through the program, teaching and correcting as needed. To complement your one-on-one sessions, you will be provided with a specific take-away program for use on your own, which will be modified as your progress evolves.

Exercise Therapy Benefits Everyone

Whether you are just beginning an exercise regime, are recovering from or wanting to prevent injuries, or are looking for competitive, progressive training for demanding sports (triathlons, skiing, snowboarding, rugby, tennis, etc.), helping you move better is our priority.

Your Questions About Exercise Therapy Answered:

How is exercise therapy different from me just going to the gym?

Our exercise therapy in South Edmonton specially targets your goals, be they pain reduction, increased range of movement or sports performance. Gym time is also great for overall wellness and we encourage all our patients to be active, in the gym, on walking trails, doing sports, gardening, etc., whether or not they engage in targeted exercise therapy.

Does exercise therapy hurt?

Exercise causes discomfort as your body’s limits are expanded, but you should not feel acute or distressing pain. Our local physiotherapists design exercise programs that work with your level. Your personalized program is updated as you become stronger, faster, and more flexible.

Can I do exercise therapy if I am not in shape?

Absolutely! Exercise therapy is appropriate for everyone at any fitness level. Please consider these few steps before starting your exercise routine.

Do I need special equipment to do my exercises at home?

There is no need to rush out and buy gym equipment. The majority of the movements we prescribe to do at home can easily be done using your own body weight or everyday objects in your home.

Is exercise therapy covered by my benefits plan?

Many benefit plans have specific coverage for therapeutic services, or flex credits that can be applied for treatments like exercise therapy. Let us know your plan number and we can tell you how much coverage you have.
