Sports injury got you sitting on the bench? Whether it’s a twisted ankle, a pulled shoulder, or a torn ACL, a sports injury can be difficult to deal with and recover from. With physiotherapy, you can get back into the game faster than any other method of rehabilitation. Sports injury physiotherapy is a safe method to help you as an athlete efficiently treat your injury so you can return to your favourite sport.

We treat your injuries with:

  • Specifically targeted exercises to help you return to your pre-injury state
  • Frequent check-ups to ensure a fast and efficient recovery
  • Prescribed exercises from your physiotherapist in order to improve mobility restrictions and reduce the chance of reinjury

What sports injuries do we treat at ProActive Physiotherapy?

Here at ProActive Physiotherapy, we treat all kinds of injuries from small sprains to torn ACLs.

We treat injuries such as:

  • Knee injuries

Knee injuries are caused by twisting or bending force on the knee. These occur in sports where you are taking quick abrupt turns and applying a twist or pressure on the knee, along with sports where you land on your knee with a great amount of force. Too much of this force can cause a ligament tear.

  • Shin splints

Shin splints refer to pain or tenderness along or just behind the large bone in the lower leg. This injury develops after hard exercise sports or repetitive activity.

  • A strain or “pulled muscle”

These occur when you overstretch or tear a muscle. These happen as a result of fatigue, overuse, or improper use of a muscle. A pulled muscle can happen in any muscle, but they are most common in your lower back, neck, shoulder, and hamstring.

  • Sprains

A sprain is a stretching of ligaments. The most common sprain is in your ankle.  The difference between a sprain and a tear is that the sprain still has the ligament fully attached although it has been overstretched, but not torn.

How can physiotherapy help you recover?

Here at ProActive Physiotherapy of Edmonton we have highly trained movement specialists eager to help you. We may perform diagnostic tests such as MRI’s, X-rays, or ultrasounds to find the source of your pain. Through physical examinations, your physiotherapist will help you construct a course of action and treatment for your needs. Your physiotherapist will take into account the severity of your sports injury, lifestyle, and fitness level in order to create your best treatment plan. We will work on increasing your range of motion and reducing scar tissue. Also, certain strengthening exercises will be prescribed for this along with manual therapy.
